It can be quite easy to walk right past this hidden treasure in the Marais but what a mistake that would be! The Magic Museum is an unusual yet delightful change from the typical Parisian museum circuit and most of all, kids love it. Enter the narrow passage way and walk through the cellar-like rooms where you will discover the evolution of magic from the 18th century to today. Antique props and gadgets, posters, and various magical contraptions and optical illusions are entertaining and educational and provide an excellent context for this supernatural activity. While most of the descriptions and texts are in French, the majority of the museum is very visual. The highlight of the museum is the regularly scheduled live magic show. For roughly 30 minutes a charming magician performs a series of tricks with the help of participating audience members. The gift shop is also well worth the visit, filled with all sorts of tricks, gadgets, and books for the budding magician.
